Revolutionary Guard warns foreign universities after strikes on Iranian institutions.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has declared U.S. and Israeli universities legitimate targets, responding to recent airstrikes on Iranian educational centers.

The announcement, published Sunday by Tasnim news agency, linked to Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard, follows U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian universities earlier this month. The Guard condemned attacks on the University of Science and Technology of Tehran on March 23 and the Isfahan University of Technology on March 20, describing them as severe violations of education and scientific research. No casualties were reported in either incident.

In its 50th communiqué, the Revolutionary Guard warned “all staff, professors, and students of U.S. universities in the region and residents around them” to stay at least one kilometer from these institutions. The warning frames the Guard’s escalation as a direct response to foreign attacks on Iranian academic centers.

The statement also confirmed the launch of the 85th wave of operations targeting U.S. and Israeli sites and reported the neutralization of 122 cluster munitions in Fars province, citing ongoing war crimes by foreign forces.

A clear condition was set: unless the U.S. government officially condemns the strikes by noon on Monday, March 30, and takes measures to prevent allied attacks on educational institutions, “the threat remains in place and will be carried out.” The communiqué specifies that two foreign universities would be targeted for each Iranian institution struck.

The announcement occurs amid heightened regional tensions following a campaign initiated on February 28 by U.S. and Israeli forces against Iran. In parallel, former President Donald Trump threatened to target Iranian power plants if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by April 6.

The escalation underscores a rare but growing trend in which educational institutions are framed as strategic targets amid international military conflicts, heightening risks for academic communities in the region.
